Meet the Board


​Board of Directors

​Mark Boroughf,
 President


Mark joined the board in 2020 and has lived in Forest Park since 2015.  Upon graduating from Loyola University Chicago, Mark reentered his family printing business and is now

the second generation owner.  He has a passion for old school methods of printing such as letterpress and engraving as well as all styles of typography. Mark's grandfather had business roots in Forest Park and he enjoys exploring the history of the small business community being a fervent supporter of shopping and eating local. When not proofreading Forest Park menus while dining out, he enjoys being creative in the kitchen and in the yard and has enjoyed working on updates to his bungalow, coining his phrase "old house makes the rules."  He welcomes your involvement in the history and future of Forest Park.

​Joel Albright​, Vice President

​Joel Albright has been a resident of Forest Park since 2007. Always having a interest in the past gone by is one of Joel’s passions. Growing up in the south suburbs, frequent road trips with his parents was allowing him to see the landscape that had history attached to it. Trips to it included the South and Eastern states. His parents always stopping at flea markets and antique shops, where his father collected coins, his mother collecting depression glass. You can most likely see him at flea markets, looking at one of a kind items, or you may see him behind the scenes on EBay bidding on Forest Park related history, some of which his items have been donated to the Historical society archives.

​Jill Wagner

Jill Wagner joined the historical society board in 2014 .  She earned a Bachelor of Science at Loyola University where she studied Anthropology, History and Women's Studies.  Jill has a special interest in early American history (pre colonial) and local Civil War history.  She lives in Forest Park and writes once a month for the local newspaper Forest Park Review, where she works as the Circulation Manager.

​​Kristen Marie Lyons

​Kristen and her husband John have lived in Forest Park since 2014 and Kristen joined the historical board in 2019. After receiving receiving her degree in history from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, she attended John Marshall Law School and has practiced law since 2004. When not running her own law firm, Kristen joys gardening and cooking.  Kristen also enjoys learning about the history of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893.

Carol Gulyas,  ​Secretary

Carol recently retired from a career in advertising, marketing, communication, and
librarianship. She earned her BA from Indiana University and a Masters of Library
Science at Dominican University in River Forest. She lived with her family in Oak Park
for 18 years and moved to Forest Park in 2018. She enjoys being involved in helping
communities grow and thrive.​

Uli Leib, Treasurer

​Uli Leib joined the Historical Society Board in 2020. Uli and her husband Rich have resided in Forest Park since 1998. Uli came to the US from Austria as an exchange student and earned BA and MA degrees from the University of Illinois. She has a special interest in Forest Park’s German roots and how the town’s history impacts its current culture. Uli is self-employed as Destination Services Consultant and Intercultural Coach. She provides support to multi-national companies, helping their expat employees settle in the Chicago area and adjust to life during their international assignments.

Janet Fink

Janet is a native of Forest Park, coming from a family with deep roots in the community. Her father’s family immigrated from Germany and established a business in Forest Park. Her mother, originally from Oak Park, became a proud Forest Parker after marrying Janet’s father. Together, they were actively involved in many of the village’s founding organizations.
Educated in Forest Park, Janet attended Garfield, Grant White, and Forest Park Middle School before graduating from Proviso East High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Carthage College and later obtained a master’s degree from Concordia University in River Forest. Janet began her teaching career at Grant White but spent the later years teaching English as a second language in Harvard, Illinois.
Passionate about animal welfare, Janet is especially interested in supporting animal shelters.
​

She and her late husband, Gary, shared a love of ballroom dancing. Gary also served the community as a member of the Forest Park Park Board and later as its president.

Nancy Cavaretta​, Oral Historian

Nancy spear-headed the Forest Park Oral History Project, "Our Neighbors: Our Heroes," Nancy has interviewed Forest Park residents who have served in the military. Nancy lived in Forest Park as a child and returned in recent years with the intention of enjoying the town and making a contribution by preserving its history. Nancy is a professor at Concordia University.

Terry Steinbach

Terry is her fifth decade of living in Forest Park. She's a proud graduate of Garfield School, Forest Park Junior High School and Proviso East High School. She currently serves as an Associate Dean at DePaul University's College of Computing & Digital Media. Terry is an avid quilter and would like all Forest Park businesses and residents to participate in the society's quilt project.
